Alchemy

alchemy book collection

February 2016

This unique collaboration brought together commissioned pieces celebrating the launch of the Alchemy Book Collection book plates. My artwork, “Lose Yourself in a Book,” was an intricate mixed-media creation adorned with glass painting, mirrors, and sequins. Inspired by Urdu calligraphy, Arabic geometric patterns, and Persian floral motifs, the piece invites viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty and richness of language and design.

The haunting – ghosts of every shade

november 2016

Commissioned by Alchemy Anew, this hauntingly beautiful collection of mixed-media works was crafted from recycled plates and vases, giving them a new life as sustainable art. Steeped in Persian mythology, the exhibition conjured images of demons and damsels, shapeshifters and sorcerers, blending beauty and terror into a captivating narrative.

Alchemy Reception

september 2017

This exhibition revisited my works from “The Haunting: Ghosts of Every Shade” alongside four new commissioned watercolours by Alchemy Anew. Centred on the theme of haunting, the display was made even more special by the presence of the esteemed artist and historian, Salima Hashmi.

There will be a small display of works of art by the Bradford-based artist Zareena Bano. She explores rich Indo-Persian visual and literary traditions peopled by demons and beautiful damsels that transmogrify into bloodthirsty ogresses, using recycled glass objects as her canvas. Works include a composite elephant, inspired by a 16th century Mughal drawing, with a serpent for a trunk and tortoises and hares for feet driven by a demon goat. These works were originally commissioned for The Leeds Library and Alchemy collaboration: The Haunting: Ghosts of Every Shade (2016).
